Where do we meet?
South Pier, Torquay, Devon, TQ1 2RD
Please arrive just a few minutes before the start of your session. Please do not arrive too early as we must allow previous customers time to leave and refuelling to take place.
Late arrivals will not be able to join the group once the briefing has commenced.
What if I can’t swim?
Unfortunately, we are unable to take you out on the water unless you are able to swim and are water confident. This is for your safety and the safety of the others on the group. We have had customers in the past who were unable to swim but so keen to join us on the skis that they went off, took swimming lessons and 12 months later fulfilled their dream to ski with us. We can put you in touch with a local swim coach.
How old do I have to be to take the controls?
18 is our minimum age for taking the control of the skis. The minimum age for passengers is 8. We recommend checking with children that they are prepared for whats involved. They will need to be able to hold on tightly and be comfortable with speed. This is a physical activity.
What happens if the weather if bad?
We carry out regular weather and sea conditions checks to make sure that the sessions only run when it is safe to do so. We will contact you if we feel that the conditions are not safe. On occasion when we do have to contact you, we will look at suitable alternative times/days, but if we are unable to reschedule a full refund can be given. If you are not contacted by us but you make the decision not to attend due to conditions then no refund or reschedule will be given. We do have wetsuits or thermal floatation suits available if you feel that you may suffer from the cold.
What should I wear?
This is weather dependent. During milder weather we recommend a wetsuit (your own or we have available to use should you need). You may prefer to wear a windproof jacket and some shorts/leggings. During warmer weather shorts and t-shirts are fine. We suggest an old pair of trainers or beach shoes for wearing on your feet but barefoot is absolutely fine. We have a supply of thermal floatation suits available for those who feel the cold but you will be surprised how warm you get once you get in to the experience.
I wear glasses – can I wear these on the ski?
Yes, if you need to wear glasses then please do wear them but we recommend that you have a floating glasses strap as a precaution. We have a supply of these available for just a few pounds.
Can I change my passenger to someone different?
If you book a Double Rider ski then as long as you are both over 18 you are able to switch around and take turns at the controls. We are not able to return to the harbour to change passengers to someone new unless you have booked all three skis for your party. Coming in half way through the session impacts others in the group.
Can I take the ski out without the instructor being present?
We do not offer this service as this is not something that insurance companies will cover. Our safari actually offers you a much better experience as we make sure you are taken to the best locations for the conditions of the day. We also make sure you are safe and avoid any hidden hazards. We will point out areas of interest along the way. Our instructors are also on hand should you find yourself in any difficulty.
I have skied before does this mean I can skip the training/safety session?
It is not possible to do this as it is a requirement of our insurance to take you through the training and safety briefing. This ensures that we are satisfied with your ability. This is for your safety and the safety of others on the group.
What time should I arrive?
We have factored preparation time into the start of the session therefore there is no need to arrive more than a couple of minutes prior to your booking time. Please avoid being late though as this will affect others on the safari group and we may have to leave without you!
